A man in his 70s is dead after being trapped in a house fire overnight Tuesday, despite attempts from his son and neighbor to try and save him.
The incident took place around 9 p.m. on Sixth Avenue in Middletown. Officials said by the time fire crews made it to the scene, flames were shooting out of the building.
The man's son, Joshua Jones, was the first person on the scene. Jones said he was asked by his mom to come check on his dad and when he got to the house he found the door locked and smoke pouring from the house.
Jones said he tried to get to his dad, who is a disabled Army vet, but was pushed back by heavy smoke.
