Trotwood Fire and Rescue Chief Richard Haacke has become accustomed to ambulances flying through his city en route to Miami Valley Hospital, the closest hospital with a trauma center. Not the ambulances in service in Trotwood, but those from outer-lying communities like Brookville, Arcanum, and other areas in Preble and Darke counties, racing through his city. “If they are taking someone with major trauma, they have to drive through (Trotwood) to get to Miami Valley,” Haacke said. “If they have a severely critical patient, they need some place they can get that person taken care of.” The solution Haacke and Brookville Fire Chief Ron Fletcher would like is a trauma center located in the Northwest section of the county. When Premier Health closed Good Samaritan hospital, the organization put money into converting Good Sam North into a full-fledged ER.
