Over the last three years Jerry Craddock’s work as a public education specialist for the Mentor Fire Department has allowed him to share the knowledge gleaned over three decades as a firefighter. Recently, VFW District 7 recognized his comprehensive efforts by naming him the 2018-19 Firefighter of the Year. District 7 is comprised of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties and a portion of Medina County. Commander David Niepokny and Bob Zonneville from VFW Post 9295 made the presentation at a banquet earlier this month. When it comes to dispensing safety information, Craddock, who lives in Lyndhurst, runs the gamut from youngsters to senior citizens.
