A 6-year-old is in critical condition at Akron Children's Hospital after being rescued from the basement of a burning home, according to the Akron Fire Department. Firefighters responded to a house fire on Laffer and Iroquois avenues at about 7 p.m Thursday. The family was home at the time of the fire, but no other members were injured. A firefighter who responded to the fire was injured from a cause unrelated from the fire, according to Akron fire officials. The firefighter was treated and is fine. Fire officials say the home is a total loss.
