A police officer and a resident were injured after a fire trapped three people inside a house in Akron’s University Park neighborhood near the Central Interchange.
The Akron Fire Department dispatched three fire engines, two ladder trucks and three medical units to the house fire in the 500 block of Wilson Avenue just before 5 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters battled the blaze, which trapped three people inside.
Two of the trapped residents were assisted to safety by fire personnel. But a woman in a first-floor bedroom had to be rescued. She was transported to the hospital.
An Akron police officer, who suffered smoke inhalation, was also taken to the hospital. Akron police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said the officer was treated and released. A spokesperson for the Akron Fire Department could not be reached Sunday for an update on the fire victim or the cause of the blaze.
