Lorain firefighters were called to a fire May 14 that caused damage to multiple floors of a 31st Street house.
Firefighters responded at 10:19 a.m. to 2438 E. 31st St. for a house that had smoke coming out its windows, according to Lorain fire Assistant Chief Matt Homolya.
Homolya said a crew doing gas line work for Miller Pipeline was working across the street, saw the smoke and called 911.
“They did a great job noticing the smoke, calling 911 and securing the gas line,” he said. “It’s something we always do, so it saved us a step.”
Homolya said the fire started on the first floor of the house, burned a whole in the floor and caused some smoke and fire damage to different parts of the house.
