The Rossford Fire Department is going on the ballot for the first time in more than 30 years.
This past week the ladder truck for the department went into the shop for repairs after it experienced a transmission problem. This is just one of the many reasons the department is asking for voter support. RFD equipment is seeing its end. Department vehicles and other equipment will have to be replaced very soon in order to keep firefighters safe.
This coming November, two levies will be on the ballot. One is a 1.0 mil levy and the other is 2.8 mil levy. One levy will support regular staffing, with a portion of it offsetting overnight on call members.
The other levy will help replace things like department vehicles, fire protective clothing and other equipment firefighters need to keep you safe.
"I know nobody likes those tax increases but it's vital for our future here. Again we've gone a long time without asking the voters to increase our millage but in the meantime the age of the fleet, the call volume has just gone off exponentially," said Rossford Fire Chief Josh Drouard.
