The American Red Cross is helping find shelter and clothing for two familes displaced by an early morning fire at a Boardman townhouse complex.
Firefighters from Boardman and three other communities were called out at around 4:30 AM Monday to battle a blaze on the 300 block of Mathews Road.
When firefighters arrived they found the flames had spread through two units of the townhouse. The smoke and fire were towering over the roof.
Altough the 9-1-1 caller said that the building had been evacuated, firefighters went inside to make sure no one was left inside.
Crews and equipment from Canfield, Youngstown, Poland as well as off-duty Boardman firefighters were also called to the fire.
A half hour after the initial call, fire was still being reported in the basement of the building.
In addition, holes in the floor posed an extra hazard to firefighters.
