In an hour-long Wednesday meeting that saw passionate debate among Granville Township Trustees, the decision was made by a 2-1 vote to activate a 90-day notification to cancel Granville’s agreement to provide fire and emergency services to Union Township.
However, Granville officials added a last-minute addendum that allows that contract to be extended by mutual agreement.
Those potential extensions, as agreed to by trustees Bryn Bird and Kevin Bennett, who voted to activate the notification of cancellation, could come if it is judged officials from the newly-formed Refugee-Canyon Joint Fire District Fire District are negotiating in “good faith,” as Bennett put it.
Trustee Dan VanNess, whose term of service ends in January after his campaign petitions were invalidated by the Licking County Board of Elections earlier this year, voted “no” to the cancellation notice.
