A firefighter and a resident were injured Thursday in an apartment complex fire in Clermont County.
“When our first crews arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke and fire showing from the lower-level first-floor apartment,” Miami Township Fire Chief Steve Kelly said. One woman in her 70s was rushed to the hospital, overcome by smoke. She was listed in serious condition.
People in 12 apartments are now displaced and being helped by the Red Cross. Five people had to be rescued from the building, including the hospitalized victim.
“We had reports of multiple people trapped inside the building at that time, so our crews immediately went into rescue mode,” Kelly said.
The chief described the firefighter’s injury as minor, but he was sent to the hospital as a precaution.
Robyn Barker’s decision to go to the laundromat may have been a lifesaver.
