Medical examiner identifies man, woman found fatally shot in Akron house during fire

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who were found dead with gunshot wounds early Tuesday during a house fire on Akron’s South Side. Justin Lee Walker, 34, and Melinda Kay Pointer, 47, both of Akron, both died of gunshot wounds to their head and torso, the medical examiner’s office said in a news release. Their deaths were ruled a homicide. Firefighters responded just before 6 a.m. to a home on the 1000 block of Brown Street, according to Akron fire Lt. Sierjie Lash. They got the fire under control quickly, and found the apparent shooting victims, Lash said. Lash said Akron police and the fire investigator are handling the investigation. Police have not released additional information.
