Nearly three years in the making, Olmsted Falls will be unveiling its 9/11 Memorial at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 next to the fire station.
“I hope this memorial is a reminder to everyone to never forget the sacrifice,” Olmsted Falls Mayor James Graven said.
Olmsted Falls Fire Chief Matt Sheehan added, “It’s a reminder of the dangers of our job and the sacrifice that rescue workers, police, fire and EMS give every day when going into work.” The ceremony will be attended by city officials, the Cleveland Fire Department Honor Guard, bagpipers and special speakers. Also, University Hospital Air Care’s helicopter will be making an appearance.
In late 2017, The Olmsted Falls Fire Department received a piece of the World Trade Center, which was donated by the New York City Fire Department.
“The artifact was sitting in the hallway at city hall,” Graven said. "Last year, the firefighters asked me if they could bring it to the firehouse. I said, ‘Certainly. It’s your memorial, your artifact.’
