The Madison Township trustees have established the qualifications for a new fire chief and agreed to hire the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association at a cost of $1,600 to advertise the position and to screen applicants and recommend candidates to the board. Trustees acted at a special meeting on Monday that turned contentious when they considered and voted on the settlement of a road department grievance that has been in the arbitration process for several years. Trustees are looking to replace former Fire Chief Ron Luttrell, who resigned effective Sept. 11 to become fire chief in Norwalk. Luttrell headed the Madison Township Fire Department for just over three years. Minimum requirements include 10 years of full-time fire service experience with five or more years as a shift command officer (captain or higher), an associate degree in fire science, fire administration, EMS administration or public safety management, successful completion of a fire academy class in budgeting and fiscal operations and experience with a “combination” department of full and part-time firefighter.
