Just shy of one year of retirement, long-time firefighter and former Lisbon fire chief Paul Gresh Jr. is going back to his roots and returning to the department as a firefighter. Lisbon village council approved the hiring of Gresh during their Tuesday night meeting effective Aug. 1. Current fire Chief Mark Hall said it wouldn’t cost anything to add Gresh back to the roster and he’ll fill a need for daytime availability. “He’s available during the day and we all know that’s a very tough time to get guys. ISO (Insurance Services Office) says we need a minimum of four guys to respond to each call,” Hall said. Gresh retired in June of 2020 after 40 years of service, four of those as chief. Mayor Peter Wilson said he’s excited for Gresh’s return to the department. “I’m glad that Paul is coming back, I saw him a couple days ago and he’s very eager to come back,” Wilson said.
