After long, taxing days of arithmetic and spelling, young Patrick Guanciale was fond of wandering down the road from Cherry Valley Elementary School to the fire station at 30th and Main streets, where he would bum a glass of milk off the firefighters and make small talk.
It was a place where he always felt safe and welcomed, and even as he grew older and graduated from Newark Catholic High School and Ohio University, his ties with the local fire department remained intact.
After college graduation, Guanciale returned to Newark to sell real estate — a career which, at the age of 70, he still enjoys alongside his son, Andrew, who followed him into the business.
Guanciale also relishes being a grandfather to Andrew’s son, Luke, 8, while keeping busy as he enters his eighth decade of life.
