With families across America preparing for Thanksgiving, the Elyria Fire Department took some time to warn of the risks involved in preparing the annual culinary celebration.
In a demonstration at Elyria Fire Station 1, Elyria Fire Chief Joe Pronesti said the department wanted to show the community how to incorrectly deep-fry a turkey in underscoring the fire hazards involved with the growing popularity of deep fryers.
“Every year in America there are accidents. Thanksgiving is one of the biggest days of the year where we have the most cooking fires. It makes sense,” he said. “The problem is the increase in popularity of deep frying comes with some hazards if people aren't aware, and they just think that they can just dump a turkey into the deep fryer, and it'll be done.”
