At least one person was injured Monday in an afternoon crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 90 at state Route 57. According to Elyria police Capt. Bill Pelko, at 3:56 p.m., a semi-truck heading west on I-90 at the Lorain Road exit — also known as state Route 57 — rear-ended a Ford Escort driven by a male, creating a “domino effect” with a total of five vehicles involved.
Pelko said the driver of the semi told officers he was distracted by the sunlight and did not see the Ford Escort prior to the collision. He will be charged with failure to maintain an assured clear distance.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extricate the male from the Ford. He was complaining of back pain. He was treated on scene and was expected to be transported to a hospital, Pelko added.
