Eugene Springfield Fire received a call about a "vehicle fire" on 52nd St. and High Banks Rd. in Springfield just after 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, April 14. Fire officials said the fire actually turned out to be a motorhome fire, which they actually need very different resources for. Initially, only one engine was sent, but fire officials said they immediately called for backup and changed procedures accordingly after seeing it was a motorhome. If the fire had been reported correctly, the correct resources could have been there sooner. Fire officials said motorhomes are more challenging for a number of reasons. One is simply because they're bigger and provide more places where people could be, making getting everyone out safely a little bit different. They also said they often find the locations of motorhomes are more difficult because they might be close to a building or possibly in storage.
