Firefighters expect to have a 74-acre wildfire burning in the Columbia River Gorge fully-contained by Tuesday night, nearly four days after it broke out near Memaloose State Park.
Officials have scaled back all evacuation notices as crews get the upper hand on the Memaloose Fire, located about nine miles east of Hood River. The Bureau of Land Management used drones to get an infra-red map of the fire and identify hot spots within the perimeter.
“Crews made really good progress late yesterday afternoon, and I think we will be able to put the fire into patrol status after today’s work,” said Incident Commander Kiel Nairns.
