Wednesday night just before 10:30, officers from Grants Pass Department of Public Safety heard an explosion near the public safeway station near the Grants Pass Parkway near Baker Park.
Officers inside the station felt the explosion as well as heard it. Just after the first explosion, a second was heard and the 911 center started receiving calls, according to GPDPS.
Officers arrived on foot and found an unidentified male who "had been burned extensively" near an active fire. Officers used a nearby sleeping bag to try and ease the man's pain as firefighters arrived to tackle the fire.
An Oregon State Police officer arrived to assist American Medical Response with life-saving efforts as the male was transported to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in critical condition.
The cause is still under investigation, but officers believe the cause to be nearby propane tanks.
