The Coos Bay Volunteer Firefighter’s Association held their 2018 Awards banquet last Saturday night. Firefighters and retirees shared memories, both old and new, reflected on statistics from last year, as well as recognizing those within the Department who demonstrated outstanding service.
Staff took time to remember the loss of two of their fire department family who passed away in 2018: Volunteer Frank Kaiser and Captain (ret.) Vern Heyer. Both will be missed and are appreciated for the years that they served our community. According to Fire Chief Mark Anderson, “Everyone in this Department contributes and deserves recognition for what they do to make this organization better. There are several people, based on their participation, attitude and impact are deserving of this award”.
Ultimately, the Firefighter of the Year distinction was awarded to Lieutenant Luke Taylor who was praised for his exemplary attitude, work ethic, and his desire to improve service delivery to our community.
