Volunteers from within the community including the fire chief, city manager, Ontario City Council members and five local National Guardsman from A Company 3-116, painted 50 of the city’s 700 fire hydrants on Saturday.
The service project was the direct result of a complaint from a citizen on a community Facebook page. The individual posted a photo of a fire hydrant that was “old and corroded,” mentioning that a lot of hydrants in town looked the same, said Councilman Freddy Rodriguez. He said the post also indicated that if the “City of Ontario wants to implement an ordinance making sure household lots are kept up — which is something we’ve been talking about — that if the council wants to push this they should clean up and help their part of the city.”
