A small fire was stopped short of becoming a devastating wildfire on Tuesday afternoon east of Myrtle Creek. The Douglas Forest Protective Association and Myrtle Creek Rural Fire Department responded to a grass fire eight miles easy of Myrtle Creek at approximately 1:30 p.m. where they located a 1/2 acre crass fire near the 400 block of Louis Creek Road. The fire was moving quickly up a hillside, burning grass and young conifer trees. Four helicopters were used to slow the fires spread while bull dozers worked a perimeter around the fire. By approximately 4 p.m., the fires spread was stopped at about two acres. A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause of the Louis Creek Fire may be related to an electric cart driving through dry grass.
