A table saw blade struck a nail Thursday morning and reportedly sparked a hopper fire at Santiam Cabinets, 2626 Three Lakes Road SE, Albany. Albany Fire Department personnel responded to the scene at around 11:20 a.m., according to a news release. When crews arrived, they discovered pressure release panels from an exterior hopper dustbin were blown out due to an explosion and evidence of fire. No injuries were reported, but a medic unit was onsite for respite care. Fire personnel remained to investigate, and additional crews arrived for suppression. Deputy fire marshals worked with the owners on ways to proceed safely. An investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a table saw blade striking a nail, which sparked and ignited wood dust in the hopper's dust removal system.
