Firefighters had to climb 10 floors of a Portland high rise to put out flames in one of the building’s apartments. No one was injured in the fire. Crews evacuated the upper floors of the building, while people in the lower floors were told to "shelter in place," Portland Fire and Rescue said. Fire officials called out a second alarm response at about noon to the building near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Oak Street. Investigators said a cooking fire in the apartment's kitchen sparked the fire. Fortunately the fire didn't spread to any additional apartment units. Firefighters tell KATU News the second alarm was needed since more manpower is required when firefighters have to go up so many floors. The smoke damage was contained to 10th floor of the building.
