You may have seen large amounts of smoke today near Coburg road. It was a another fire, but this one was set by firefighters - for training. This was all part on an annual training exercise for new recruits and seasoned firefighters with Coburg Fire District. It lets them get hands on training like in a classroom like setting. Chief Chad Minter says this training could not have come at a better time especially with the weather heating up and the increasing threat of fires. "This was scheduled for... really months. we prefer for it not to be a really hot day, but at the same time we want it to be fairly reasonable so we're not in the mud or anything. it just happens to be that fire season's coming early," said Minter Minter says that this training was planned for months in advance and that all the new recruits performed well.
