A person is recovering after being saved from the Willamette River early Monday morning, and they have a local doctor to thank. Dr. David Douglas was walking to work around 4:45 a.m. when he heard someone screaming, "Angel! Angel!" "It wasn’t clear to me if he was calling for someone named 'Angel' or if he was calling for an angel to come and help him," Dr. Douglas explained. It the dark of the morning, he couldn't determine where the voice was coming from, but once he realized the screams were coming from below, he immediately called 911. "I looked down into the water and stared and stared and stared, and finally in the shadows I could make out a man hanging on for dear life," Dr. Douglas explained. The person was right next to a 200-foot yacht in the Willamette River. Dr. Douglas said he started waving his arms to get the attention of those on board.
