Above average rain hit Lane County this month.
So when the clock hit 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning, fire season ended in the Western Lane District of the Oregon Department of Forestry.
It was the earliest fire season has ended in the district in over 4 decades.
"Went back to 1978 to the last time that it ended this early," Dave Kjosness with Western Lane said.
The 2019 fire season was short and uneventful for most of the, Kjosness said - especially compared to the last few seasons.
"Typically our fire seasons end in mid-October," he said. "I believe last year it ended closer to November."
Western Lane District protects over 767,000 acres.
