A fire at a residence in Sweet Home was caused by a discarded match, the Sweet Home Fire District said Monday evening.
Occupants of the home at 918 2nd Avenue in Sweet Home noticed an odor of smoke and opened the door to the garage to discover it involved in fire.
They escaped uninjured and called 911.
14 firefighters responded from the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, extinguishing the fire before it spread to the house.
The home sustained significant smoke damage.
It is estimated that the dollar loss is approximately $75,000 between damage to the structure and loss of contents.
A deputy from the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office led the investigation.
The cause was determined to be a match "that was carelessly discarded into a pile of clothing," district officials said.
