Fire season starts July 1 at 12:01 a.m. in Lane County and southern Linn County, Oregon Department of Forestry officials say.
The declaration puts fire prevention restrictions in place for landowners and the public on lands protected by ODF.
There are regulations for industrial logging and forest management activities, as well.
The goal? Reducing the number of human-caused fires during a time when wildfires are most likely to occur.
“With the potential safety concerns related to COVID-19, this year it’s even more critical to relieve any unnecessary burdens that wildfire in our communities creates,” said South Cascade District Forester Chris Cline.
The South Cascade and Western Lane districts will join six other ODF districts in southern and central Oregon that are already in a declared fire season.
