Oregon health officials have reported a record increase in both coronavirus cases and deaths on Thursday, a day after Governor Kate Brown’s two-week freeze measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 went into effect.
The Oregon Health Authority reported 1,225 new confirmed and presumed cases of coronavirus, marking a new high for a single-day jump in cases. The state has identified 60,873 cases since the pandemic began.
Oregon also recorded 20 more COVID-19 deaths since Wednesday, pushing the state’s death toll past 800. The OHA released more information about the victims, which is posted below.
“I have heard frequently from those who have refused to believe this pandemic is serious if we aren’t seeing hospitalizations and deaths,” said OHA Director Patrick Allen.
