A Keizer man died after driving into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer Thursday in Clackamas County, troopers say.
The Oregon State Police said Richard Russell, 84, turned his Ford Explorer from Meridian Road onto Oregon 211, where the SUV was hit by a semi driver.
Russell died at the scene. His passengers — 83-year-old Bonnie Magoon of Keizer and 63-year-old Gary Gerstner of Garberville, California — were flown to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The state police said the driver of the semi, 55-year-old Gerald Fritz of Lebanon, was not hurt.
The crash occurred in a rural area south of Canby and east of Woodburn.
