A small brush fire broke out near Springfield Thursday afternoon. Fire officials said about seven acres burned. The fire is now 100% contained. However, they're still investigating the exact cause of the fire. Crews responded at about 2 p.m. to a blaze burning along Upper Camp Creek Road. A portion of the road was reduced to one lane as crews worked to contain the fire. A helicopter was brought in to do air drops. No homes were damaged but officials said the fire did threaten structures. Brent Peterson with the Oregon Department of Forestry said one house had defensible space that helped keep the fire at bay. "The home here actually had some fire air defensible space around it which was very helpful for keeping the fire away from the structure so keeping your defensible space is critical," Peterson said.
