Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty pleaded with the community to stop lighting fires after several were lit downtown when protests broke out in the wake of a deadly police shooting in the Lents neighborhood. A man was shot and killed by a Portland police officer in Lents Park Friday. Details of what led up to the shooting have not yet been made available. Authorities said a 911 call was made about a man with a gun in the park. Officers responded, and at some point during the interaction, less lethal and lethal force was used. In response, demonstrations played out across the city. Roughly 100 people gathered at the scene of the shooting to protest. Later, a crowd formed at the waterfront and marched across the Hawthorne Bridge before returning to the Justice Center and dispersing.
