PHOTOS: An arson suspect is in custody, accused of starting a fire in downtown Gresham early Monday morning that damaged the building used by the city's Chamber of Commerce.
Fire crews were first called out at about 2 a.m. on reports of a fire at the Walker Travel building on North Main Avenue, just off Division Street across from Gresham High School. The building also houses the city's Chamber of Commerce.
Gresham Police later confirmed they arrested 43-year-old Sarah Ardnt as a suspect in the fire.
"Officers patrolling the area found the building on fire and Ardnt was reportedly nearby when we took her into custody," a Gresham Police spokesperson said. Gresham Fire officials say much of the business was saved, calling Walker Travel "an iconic business that has been there for years."
