The Dexter Rural Fire Protection District is looking for a new fire chief, and the staffing issues have led to rumors that the department shut down services.
Board director Bob Holland hopes to extinguish those rumors as he told KEZI that the Dexter fire department is very much in service.
"We're in business; we're not shut down," Holland said.
Holland said their chief of five years, Matt Peterson, took another position at the beginning of June. He said they'll be hiring an interim chief very soon. But he wants to make it clear that this doesn't mean they'll be shutting down.
"It's not unusual to have movement within the executive ranks of small fire districts," Holland said. "We are here 24/7, ready to serve the community, and they should not be concerned about personnel turnover. They are protected."
