VIDEO: A new 5G camera is being tested to help first responders detect wildfires and get to them before they get out of control. Fire officials explain that the first few minutes when a wildfire begins are crucial when working to put out the flames. “Time in any fire, whether it’s wildland or structure fire, whatever it is, time means additional damage and property damage,” said Fire Chief John Cermack with the North County Regional Fire Authority. T-Mobile and the company Pano AI sent out their new 5G cameras with artificial intelligence near Portland, Oregon to detect wildfires before they spread. Drones are already in use for situations like these, but tech leaders say it’s not enough. “They generally are imaging a smaller area at a time versus our cameras that can see for 10 miles in a full 360 degrees at all times,” said Sonia Kastner, the CEO of Pano AI.
