VIDEO: According to organizers, more than 400 people from all over the state registered for the second annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Autzen Stadium. The goal of the memorial climb was to honor the thousands of civilians and hundreds of first responders and military personnel who were killed 23 years ago during the World Trade Center attacks. The stair climb involved a route around Autzen’s seats that covers thousands of steps, equivalent to more than 110 stories — symbolizing the height of the two fallen World Trade Center towers. Zak Harney is a firefighter for Eugene-Springfield Fire department who brought his young son to carry on his back during the climb. ”It's a good opportunity for everyone around the nation to come together,” he said. “Specifically here in Eugene to come together and honor all those who were lost that day.”
