Fire crews working the Diamond Complex, burning within the Umpqua National Forest (UNF), continue to make strides in suppression repairs across the fire area, according to UNF officials. UNF says they're working alongside fire crews to ensure that repairs are completed properly in areas where there have been shifts/distrubances of the ground, created by handlines, heavy equipment, or fire vehicles. Public Use Restrictions (PURs) are set to be terminated starting Friday, September 20, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. on UNF lands, and Fire Danger is set to decrease to 'Moderate'. According to forest officials, firefighters are set to continue to use hand tools to return hand-constructed fire lines back to a more natural state, while heavy equipment will return vegetation over dozer-constructed lines to protect the soil; making it easier for the ground to recover.
