East End Fire Department Chief Leslie Young theorizes someone stole an $8,000 thermal imaging camera after volunteers helped extinguish a house fire along Poplar Street in Bloomsburg on Saturday.
Young said the camera was discovered missing while firefighters were putting equipment back in their truck. The camera had been among firefighters' coats on the ground and across the street from the fire.
She didn't know if the camera was used during the fire or not.
"At this point, it looks like it's been stolen since nobody else has it. It's not uncommon to borrow tools from other companies or accidentally take something from another company, but you always give it back. I contacted every station that was there," she said.
As of Thursday, she said there were no leads for the camera to locate sources of heat including people.
