A criminal investigation is underway after funds were found missing from the Lehigh Township Volunteer Fireman's Relief Association in Northampton County. The treasurer of the VFRA, Corey Cole, 41, told board members he had "inappropriately spent funds belong to the assocation," according to a press release from Police Chief Scott Fogel. It's unknown how much money is missing, but a preliminary review of documents shows "numerous incidents" of spending at restaurants, online shopping and entertainment, Fogel said. The VFRA receives state money to maintain and purchase fire equipment, training, insurance, and public safety. Auditor General Eugene DePasquale has assigned an audit team to investigate and determine how much money was misappropriated.
