Family and food came together Sunday with the Cressona Fire Company No. 1’s annual Mother’s Day dinner. The event usually brings between 100 and 150 people and serves as a fundraiser for the fire department. On the menu Sunday was a choice between ham or turkey, filling, with mashed potatoes on request, corn or green beans, rolls, desserts and drinks. Coleslaw was a new addition to the menu this year. Firefighter Bob Smith said he has been with the company for 18 years and the dinner has been held at least that long, but no one could give a solid number. Smith said preparations for the day began last Thursday. “It’s our way of honoring mothers and us giving back to the community,” Smith said.
