Three Altoona firefighters were honored Wednesday night in front of their family, friends and brothers at the Altoona City Council meeting for saving a woman’s life in May.
It was a quiet home for six years, until a fire broke out that nearly turned deadly.
“As I approached the hallway I took a big breath of black smoke, and when I got to the hallway I blacked out,” said Lisa Cuff.
But thanks to the heroic actions of three Altoona firefighters, Cuff made it out of her house that night.
“She was pretty much unconscious," said Altoona fire Capt. Kelly Dilling. “We got behind her and brought her down the steps into the fresh air and she started to regain consciousness.”
Then, months later, the men were presented with the Medal of Valor with Cuff and her family watching the city and department honor the men that saved her life.
