A 19-year-old man from Wernersville admitted to smoking marijuana prior to a crash involving his car and a Western Berks ambulance in North Heidelberg Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The ambulance was driving north on North Heidelberg Road shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday when it crashed into a car that pulled out from West Meadow Road, officials said. When the ambulance tried to stop, it slid, hit the car and then rolled over. The car ended up over the guardrail on the opposite side of the road, police said. The ambulance was taking a patient to Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Bern Township at the time of the crash, said state police. "Immediately following the crash, crews from Western Berks Ambulance and Muhlenberg Area Ambulance Association responded to cover and handle the patients out of the crash," said Anthony Tucci, executive director of Western Berks Ambulance.
