Jim Fairweather has kept a watchful eye on Chester County for collectively 38 years as a dispatcher and a first-responder. As a member of the Chester County 911 Communication Center and a volunteer first-responder, his job starts when someone calls for help. He began as a volunteer firefighter in 1973 when he was 15 years old and soon after he gave of his time running calls with different volunteer fire companies and with EMS. He later obtained a job as an emergency dispatcher and has continued to answer the call to help others in need for nearly four decades. “It seemed like something I wanted to try and it stuck,” he said when he first considered a career as an emergency dispatcher in 1980. He was hired a year later. “I had been working as an EMT driver for Good Fellowship Ambulance for four years as a volunteer and was looking for something different to do.”
