The former Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad chief suffered first-degree burns when a fire damaged his home in Middletown over the weekend, according to officials.
Current squad chief Andy Foley said past chief and current trustee Hugh Cooperman was injured when his home in the 800 block of Upland Road caught fire about 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
“He suffered first-degree burns and he is being treated at Jefferson University Hospital in Center City,” Foley said Monday.
Township Fire Marshal Jim Maguire said crews responded to the two-story home and found fire in the back room of the home. “So they had fire presenting out of the rear windows of the house,” he said.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the back room, however the home still sustained smoke and soot damage throughout, he said.
