A tractor-trailer fire shut down Interstate 78 West during the Wednesday evening rush hour, according to a report from the scene. The driver was said to have gotten out of the cab as it was engulfed in flames. The vehicle fire was reported about 5:40 p.m. in the area of mile-marker 2.2 in I-78 West near Springtown Road in Pohatcong Township, near the Alpha line. New Jersey State Police at Perryville confirmed the fire but had no further information immediately available. The fire destroyed the cab of the truck and spread to the trailer as crews used foam in an effort to get it under control. Firefighters cut into the trailer to find and douse hot spots. The highway remained closed past 8:30 p.m., the New Jersey Department of Transportation reported.
