The city of Easton honored retired Fire Chief John Bast on Wednesday night. Easton City Council presented Bast with a certificate of appreciation for his nearly 30 years of service.
Bast, an Easton resident, began his career as an Easton firefighter in 1989. He acted as fire chief for the past 12 years. He announced his retirement in August 2018.
Bast was also presented with a commemorative ax at the meeting by Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Arnold. The ax was a gift on behalf of the Easton Fire Department to honor Bast’s time as fire chief.
“It was a tough decision to retire,” Bast said, “but talking to friends and family, you know when it’s time. It’s not just a job from 9 to 5, it’s a lifestyle.”
