A special meeting at the Waynesboro Fire Department’s Virginia Avenue station was full of emotion as the late Jeff Carty was honored for his dedication to the community, WellSpan- Summit Health and the Waynesboro Fire Department. WellSpan-Summit Health has committed to donate a total of $250,000 to the Waynesboro Fire Department over the next five years, helping to fund the department’s new ladder truck. The 105-foot Pierce Arrow XT, which was put in service in 2018, cost $910,000. Carty, who died unexpectedly in May at the age of 55, was instrumental from all angles of the agreement. “The Waynesboro Fire Company had invested in the fire truck and when we built the medical center in Waynesboro, this is one of the only trucks that can reach that height,” WellSpan-Summit Health Vice President and CFO Kimberly Rzomp said.
