If you’re trying to run a fire company efficiently, there’s always some crisis that has to be addressed: whether it’s a recent emergency you’ve responded to, the possibilities of finding some grant money or brainstorming ideas for fundraising events.
These days, Berwyn Fire Company members are discussing the need for a new fire station and where to build it in their coverage territory.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of their two-story building on Bridge Avenue, which Eamon Brazunas, chief of Berwyn Fire Company describes this way: "In some ways it feels like an old firehouse; it’s, not sterile, and not like an office building."
He did point out it was deficient in many ways: there was inadequate space between the fire apparatus and the bunker gear, what you must wear on emergencies; it is deficient in storage space, the roof leaks; it needs more enhanced bunkroom facilities for male and female personnel; it lacks additional parking spots for its members and it lacks offices for operational and administrative staff.
